New Cincinnatti 3 Spindle Gantries on Order Cincinnati Machine's $4.7 Million Order For High Speed Equipment

Will Support Boeing C17 Globemaster Cargo Plane Production

CINCINNATI, OH (February 19, 2002) - Brek Manufacturing Co., a leading producer of large aluminum and titanium aircraft structural components for numerous military and commercial aircraft programs, has ordered a first-of-its-kind Cincinnati Machine rail-type vertical profiler and a second profiler, both for use inC17 production.

To optimize machining of cargo floor sections for the Boeing C17 Globemaster military cargo plane, Brek chose two powerful Cincinnati 3-spindle, 5-axis vertical profilers, one with 80" distance between spindles, a standard spindle configuration and the other with 100"between spindles, the first of that size to be built by Cincinnati, the leading producer of this type of equipment.

Both will be mounted on216' of rail and both will be equipped with rugged 100 Hp, 10,000 rpm spindles for exceptionally productive removal rates of aluminum.

The100" profiler will enable Brek to machine three 96" wide aluminum cargo floor sections for the C17 in one set-up, gaining 33 percent in productivity. Previously, Brek machined the floor sections two at a time on profilers with the shorter 80" center distance.

Cincinnati Machine works closely with its customers to deliver equipment that meets production requirements even if it means designing new equipment. The 100" profiler will utilize much of the same technology as a standard profiler but will receive a newly engineered cross rail and spindle housing section to accommodate the new spindle configuration.

These changes will resultin the addition of about ten tons to the machine requiring some additional engineering to accommodate the extra weight while maintaining superior alignment and accuracy needed in aerospace manufacturing.

Brek, based in Gardena, CA, is a long-time Cincinnati Machine customer. This new equipment will join two Cincinnati 3-spindle, 5-axis gantries, three Cincinnati 30V machining centers, a 2-spindle, wide range bridge mill, two80" profilers and two Cincinnati V5-2000 5-axis vertical machining centers currently in production at Brek.

To accommodate the new profilers, Brek is adding 42,000 square feet to its manufacturing facility.

"Brek Manufacturing is recognized in the aerospace industry as the world's leader in machining large structural components utilizing the most current high speed machining techniques," said Chip Storie, Cincinnati Machine's vice president of marketing. "The purchase of these Cincinnati profilers is a>great example of Brek's commitment to maintaining leadership through superior manufacturing practices".

Cincinnati Machine is a leading global manufacturer and supplier of CNC machine tools, such as turning centers, vertical machining centers, horizontal machining centers/cells,5-axis machining centers, universal machining centers, profilers, routers nd composite processing equipment.
